Another welcoming and affirming option if the Unitarian Universalist
Church. I have belonged for many years and find that my study of
Kundalini Yoga, the teachings of Yogiji and Sikh dharma fit well
within the 7 principles of UUism. I am really appreciating this
discussion. It is meeting my need for connection as I sometimes feel
very alone and not sure how I fit given the heteronormativity of the
community.

"Sorry if I'm repeating myself here, but 3HO really needs to be "welcoming and affirming" rather than just tolerating before I or most LGBT people will have much to do with it. "
You have a terrible Attitude, why would 3HO want you to have anything to do with it?
The Teachings are the Teachings. Everything else is just your imagination. It's YOUR opportunity.

Thu Apr 23, 2009 12:12 pm (PDT) Sat Nam todos,
I'm not sure if I
responded to this line or the thread on the Rainbow Sangat. I know the
issue if being discussed in the Khalsa Council. I don't have the
links, but people may want to check out how other spiritual/religious
groups--the "welcoming and affirming" congregations have addressed the
issue.
The United Church of Christ website may be a good starting
point. Many seem to be forgetting that there is discrimination against
LGBT people on a societal level, in some countries punsihable by
death. This should not be overlooked in the discussion. I think Sikhs
took a big step in challenging the discriminatroy caste system by
having everyone take the same last names. Sorry if I'm repeating
myself here, but 3HO really needs to be "welcoming and affirming"
rather than just tolerating before I or most LGBT people will have much
to do with it.

SAT NAM,
There is also a new studio - www.mindbodysoulyoga.com - up in Washington Heights (beautiful Northern Manhattan) with Kundalini.

I went to the United Church of Christ's website- per suggestion as a reference. I found an interesting section on "Faith and the Economy" with posts from ministers to help us through these trying times. Here are a couple of excerpts:
Fear or Faith?
Fear
in small doses can be a good thing. Fear is what told our ancestors to
run from predators and spurred them on to go faster than they could
have otherwise. And many of us never would have studied for math tests
unless we had been motivated, in part, by fear of what would happen if
we did not. So sometimes, in the short run, fear can prompt us to do
the right thing....
The Blessing of Limits
There
is nothing like a good dose of reality to yield a blessing. Reality is
always about limits, but in some centuries we obscure it with ideas
about limitless growth and possibility....
These are "teachings" from ministers, mind you. These people are a bunch of fucking morons. Is that the kind of consciousness we want to use as a reference?

Check the Aquarian Teacher manual- the one you get from Teachers Training. It's right there. Picture and everything.
